Eating with Elongated Maxilla

I think this is Dom max. The birds with the longer upper mandibles like RGS and Dom Max seem to have difficulty picking up some of the food. I usually offer something in addition to seed

Video Of RGS - It often tilts head when trying to pick up food

Is he turning his head sideways because he can't pick up the food... I love crows but I have never seen crows do that...

Great photos...they are one of my fav. subjects..

I think you are right that the crow turns its head when it has difficulty picking up food which is a bit sad, but bird woman extraordinaire is the one to ask: GS-AK_Beak_Deformity@usgs.gov. Some biologists there are studying the beak deformities and know exponentially more than I do.

Nice to meet another crow lover. I really enjoy them. You might enjoy Michael Westerfield's site at http://www.crows.net/ . He encourages people to share their crow observations at info@crows.net

The behavioral stuff I'm posting just for myself and didnt expect any comments! Thanks for the 'Hello'
